Recycled Paper

Recycled Paper

Recycling reduces the need for extracting (mining, quarrying and logging), refining and processing raw materials. All of these create substantial air and water pollution. As recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change. At the Al Basma Center (“Smile” Center) our artisans create handmade recycled paper greetings cards. Serving 42 adults with intellectual disabilities the crafts are a way to empower those society has cast off. The greeting cards also allow for waste paper to be used in a more productive second life, than lying in a landfill. In the end our artisans at the Al Basma center engage in a society as full members thanks to the use of waste paper and ingenuity. We at BFTA asked different schools, universities and organization to separate paper waste from other waste in order for Al Basma center to recycle and sell.
